The Behind-the-Scenes Technologies That Create a Quality iGaming Experience

Here in Britain, the iGaming industry, which offers online casino games, sports betting, lotteries, bingo, poker, and other forms of wagering has one of the strongest, largest, and most developed in the world.

There are several reasons behind its success in the UK. Firstly, us Brits love to have a flutter, we’ve been betting on horse racing for hundreds of years and many of our kings and queens have been known to enjoy card games. With such pedigree, it’s no surprise that iGaming has always been in high demand.

Our legislative environment is also very supportive. The UK was one of the first countries in the world to create a framework that regulated iGaming, creating safeguards for players to enjoy a flutter knowing that they were doing so at a legitimate business that would treat them fairly.

Competition is also a big driving force for iGaming’s maturity in the UK. Unlike some jurisdictions where only a state-owned operator or a handful of approved companies are permitted to operate, the UK allows any number of brands to offer casinos, sports betting, and other forms of wagering.

This competition leads brands to innovate and offer more to their customers. One way they do this is by offering bonuses and other promotions that help their players place bets for free or at a lower cost.

In fact, there is so much competition that many bettors turn to sites like oddschecker that collate the different promo codes for 888 and other leading casinos so they can find the ones that are best for them.

All of these are key drivers have played a big role in making the British iGaming industry what it is today but, above all, technology has played the biggest part. But not all of this technology is visible. Of course, the internet and smartphones have been credited with being pivotal in the creation of online casinos but there are other pieces of tech we should thank just as much.

    Random Number Generators

Randomness has been critical to the development of the universe, life of Earth, and much of what we every day. Despite this, computers really struggle with being random. This shouldn’t be too much of a surprise since computers can only follow instructions written by programmers.

However, without randomness, there would be no way to play online casino games. Their outcomes would be predictable, taking away the entire premise of popular classics like roulette and blackjack.

In physical casinos, randomness is achieved by spinning wheels, rolling dice, and shuffling cards. To replicate these actions in the digital world, online casinos use a random number generator (RNG).

RNGs work by taking a truly random external source, such as atmospheric background noise, the movements of lava lamps, or the passing of individual photons through a semi-transparent plane, and running them through a computer algorithm. The random input ensures the unpredictability of the outcomes and the fairness of games.

    Encryption

iGaming brands have to take security very seriously as they have to keep a lot of personal information and protect your account balance from people who shouldn’t have it.

Just like banks, online casinos use encryption technology to ensure your account information is only visible to their team and you. They also use it to prevent anyone other than you from seeing your password, keeping your bankroll safe.

Encryption is a technology that predates computers. It obfuscates data by scrambling it with some form of cypher or key.

The encryption used by iGaming companies is AES, an international standard that was originally developed in Belgium but adopted by the US government as the Advanced Encryption Standard.

Working behind the scenes, this type of encryption uses two keys, one public and one private. Your computer will send information to the casino after scrambling it with the casino’s public key.

Once scrambled, the public key mathematically cannot unscramble it. Only the casino’s private key can do this, meaning it remains a secret shared between you and the iGaming company.
