In the early hours of Tuesday, 4 February 2025, a tragic accident occurred near the M62 motorway, resulting in the death of 13-year-old Harrison Reynolds. The incident has left the local community in mourning and raised questions about the circumstances leading to such a devastating event.

    The Incident

Shortly before 1 am, emergency services were called to the A672 Oldham Road in Rishworth, West Yorkshire. A black Vauxhall Corsa, carrying six teenagers, had veered off the carriageway. When the accident occurred, the vehicle was believed to be travelling from junction 22 of the M62 towards Rishworth. Harrison, a passenger in the car, sustained critical injuries and was transported to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

    Community Response

The news of Harrison’s passing has profoundly impacted the local community. His mother, Sara Louise, described him as her “whole heart and soul.” She had previously urged friends and family to pray for her son in a heartfelt message, stating, “Can you all share this post? I want everyone to pray for my little menace. Harrison was in a car accident on Monday. He’s critical with life-threatening injuries; each day our boy is still fighting!”

Harrison’s sister, Olivia, expressed her grief, writing, “Our boy put up a hell of a good fight and carried on fighting a whole 10 hours. Heartbroken is an understatement, and I’m gonna be so lost without my little menace of a brother. Keep causing chaos up there, little man. I love you today, tomorrow, and forever, our little H-forever.”

Friends and family have rallied around the Reynolds family, offering condolences and support. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist with funeral expenses, aiming to give Harrison the “send-off he so deserves.”

    Ongoing Investigation

In the aftermath of the accident, five other teenagers who were in the vehicle were arrested in connection with the incident. They have since been released on police bail as investigations continue. Detective Inspector Paul Conroy from the West Yorkshire Police Major Collision Enquiry Team stated, “This is a tragic incident which has resulted … . Our thoughts go out to his family, and specialist officers are working to … .”

Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could shed light on the circumstances leading up to the crash. They are particularly interested in hearing from individuals who may have seen the black Vauxhall Corsa prior to the collision or who possess dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident. Witnesses are encouraged to contact West Yorkshire Police via their website or by calling … , quoting reference 0059 of … .

    Road Safety Concerns

This tragic event has reignited discussions about road safety, especially concerning young and inexperienced drivers. The A672, a route connecting the M62 to local towns, is known for its challenging driving conditions, particularly during nighttime or adverse weather. Residents have previously voiced concerns about the safety of this stretch of road, citing issues such as sharp bends, limited lighting, and frequent speeding.

Road safety advocates call for increased awareness and education for young drivers in response to the accident. Emphasis is placed on adhering to speed limits, understanding road conditions, and the potential consequences of overloading vehicles. Community leaders are also urging local authorities to assess the safety measures in place on the A672 and consider implementing additional precautions to prevent future tragedies.

    Support for the Bereaved Family

The loss of a child is an unimaginable hardship, and the Reynolds family is receiving support from various quarters. Counselling services have been made available to Harrison’s schoolmates and friends to help them process the grief. Local organisations are also offering assistance to the family during this difficult time.

The community’s outpouring of support highlights the collective grief and solidarity in the face of such a tragedy. Vigils and memorials are being organised to honour Harrison’s memory, providing a space for friends and family to come together and remember the joy he brought into their lives.
